Beating Breast Cancer. You can help.
Surprised to find us blogging about breast cancer on a financial blogsite? As a community credit union, we support many causes, but when the American Cancer Society asked us to participate in their Making Strides for a Cure walk for breast cancer, we were surprised to find a common cause among us. Almost every one of our families has been touched by breast cancer in some way. And, in a workplace populated by more than 85 women, this women’s health cause struck close to home. In October, you’ll notice our commitment to our cause. We’re sponsoring a team in the walk at LP Field on October 25 in Nashville, and we’ll be working to raise money to support our cause. Our branches will be going completely pink while we celebrate everything wonderful about being girls, while honoring those amazing women we know who fight cancer every day.
Do you know a breast cancer fighter who needs honoring? Add a comment to our blog and write her story. We’ll be walking for her on October 25. If you would like to join our team (it’s free, no fundraising required, free pink t-shirt) contact Malinda at marketing@ohcu.org.

I’ll be honoring my mother-in-law, Nancy with my walk in the Making Strides for Breast Cancer walk on October 25. Nancy fought breast cancer for more than 10 years. She passed away on October 25, 2001. She was a true inspiration; a woman whose faith never wavered. She never saw her grandchildren, never got to enjoy retirement, but she had a wonderful LIFE. She believed a cure for cancer exists. I hope we can help that happen. We all have so much LIVING to do.

I’d like to honor my mother-in-law, Kate, who had breast cancer 35 years before she passed away, had a complete double mastectomy, and the breast cancer returned anyway. It’s what she passed away from.

As a breast cancer survivor, I would like to thank all of you who have honored your loved ones. Cancer of any kind can take so much, however, if we can continue to stand up, walk, pray, and never stop waiting for a cure, we can see this disease gone! Survivor since 2005.

I will be walking in honor of my best friend for 10 years, Tresha Steele Stevens, who lost her battle with breast cancer in February of 2003.
